We live on a beautiful planet where natural beauty refreshes our eyes. Forests add to the natural beauty of the world. Forests help in minimizing global warming because of their ability to store carbon. They help in controlling floods, purifying water, cycling nutrients and thus providing food for the millions of people living on this planet. Forests also provide a natural habitat to millions of species of birds and animals. It thus becomes our moral duty to preserve our forests not only for ourselves but for millions of species that live there. unfortunately, technology is not helping us do that (Smith et. al, 2000).On one hand, man-made machines are doing wonders in the world, on the other hand, they appear equally destructive for the inhabitants of this planet as well as the environment. Playing against the laws of nature has always led to destructive consequences and the twenty-first century promises more development. Every day more and more forests are cut down to fulfill the demands of the people. They have to suffer due to the increase in population. It is for this reason I have chosen the topic of deforestation so that the importance of forests can be once again be highlighted in the light of technological advancement.Deforestation as the word itself suggests is the opposite of forests. However, for a proper definition of the word, it would be more appropriate to quote FAO which defines it as the conversion of forest to another land use or the long-term reduction of the tree canopy cover below the minimum 10 percent threshold.
