Analysis of Self-Regulation1. Do evolutionary factors play a large role in aggression? There are genes that control aggression and niceness hence evolutionary link sets in the system. This has a concrete prove from various lab results by several scientists across the globe. An example is rat-breeding experiment where the aggressive rats gave birth to violent and wild generation while the nice rats had a gentle generation. The originality of an individual plays a bigger role in personality development hence aggression and friendliness has a genetic root (Dugatkin 197).What was Freud’s theory about violence? The human consciousness feeds the behavior. The animal instincts in the human beings get culmination by the ego to contribute to environmental conscious state. The superego on the other side assists in rational thinking and action as human beings. Breaking down of ego and superego bring the temptations and personal desires but when the id takes control of mind state, the individual actions take environmental basis thus developing violence for instance (Rapoport 540).What does more research that is recent say about a likely evolutionary role for violence? What does Hawley’s research say about this? The recent research on the violence evolutionary role points out that the people capacity for the collective act of violence has species evolutionary base. It considers the violence as evolutionary adaptive. This research argues on the emergence of evolutionary adaptive by product from a given social, political and ecological origin (Rapoport 350). Despite this argument, there is consistent view that there is more of evolutional byproduct on collective violence as Hawley’s research states.2. What internal mechanisms (forms of self-regulation) are available for controlling aggression? There are several internal mechanisms for aggression control. The regulation behavior changes in accordance to goals or ideals from societal or internal expectation. They can be either controlled or autonomous self-regulation. These are mainly psychological mechanisms of control by the unconscious mind to deny, manipulate or even distort the reality. This brings a defense against the feeling of unacceptable pulses or anxiety to maintain an individual schema. These mechanisms include repression, or assuming a painful thought or feelings, object incorporation in one’s thoughts. Some of these buried though may resurface the methods works in some cases. Rationalization and motive substitute from bad offensive reasons for the action to good, acceptable ones is also a form of aggression control (Mark R. Leary 32). Conscious regression is also a factor of consideration as a base for self-regulation in the control of aggression. Why does self-regulation sometimes fail? Self-regulation is very critical for human survival but sometimes is bound to fail. This sets in when the emotional regulation acquires a special point in the self-control field. Emotional regulation mostly takes precedence over the behavior of self-regulation mechanisms thus undermining an individual internal mechanism (Mark R. Leary 58). This leads to the failure of self-regulation.What does current research suggest in this regard? There is a recent research in regards to self-regulation. This explores the complexity of self-regulation as a vital feature in somatic and cognitive behavior therapy. There are many interrelation factors governing the regulation without a trace of a single factor for success or failure of internal mechanism in aggression control.Works Cited
